Planets, Stars and Discs:
A Golden Age for Particle and
Gas Dynamics
July 9-13, 2018, Oxford
Celebrating the 70th birthday of
John
Papaloizou, FRS
This conference will celebrate John Papaloizou, as he
moves into his eighth decade, and his key contributions to dynamical
astrophysics,
from planets to stars to discs to galaxies. Throughout
his career, John has been at the forefront of many of the most
important dynamical problems of contemporary astronomy.
From planetary migration and gap opening,
to tidal interactions in stars and discs, to dynamical
stability, to resonances,
to stellar oscillations, John's contributions have been
consistently path-breaking.
This get-together will assemble many of the world's
leading researchers in the numerous fields
John has contributed to, with a strong focus on particle
and gas dynamics.
The topics will span the entire range of John's
interests... from planets to stars to discs to galaxies.
The Conference will be hosted at the Denys Wilkinson
Building, which is on Keble Road, at the corner of Banbury Road
(postcode OX1 3RH, building 4 on this map ). It is part of the Physics Department
at Oxford University. The Conference will be held in the Dennis
Sciama Lecture Theatre, which is on Level 5 (one level above
reception).
There will be a welcome reception on Sunday 8th July at
6 pm at the conference venue. The conference dinner will be held on
Thursday 12th July at St Anne's College.
